FAIRFAX, Calif. - If collegiate golf awarded a most improved golfer award, Purdue's Bobby Bennett would have to be considered a frontrunner. The sophomore fired a six-under 207 and tied for first place at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Tuesday.

The Boilermakers finished second as a team after a final-round 287, tied for the fourth-lowest round of the day. Purdue totaled an 855 over the three rounds. Oregon State won the 15-team event with an 848.

Bennett, who finished tied for first at the season-opening Radrick Farms Intercollegiate, recorded rounds of 71, 68 and 68 in the win. Bennett only appeared in one event as a freshman.

Bennett's total of 207 is the second lowest three-round score in school history. Sophomore Peter Richardson holds the record with a 206.

Richardson tied for 12th on Tuesday after a final-round 70. He totaled a two-over par 215.

Senior Dustin Cone tied for 14th with a 216. Sophomore Brandon Lawson tied for 47th after recording a 223.

Sophomore Pariya Junhasavasdikul tied for 49th after carding a 224.

The tournament was held on the 6,583-yard, par-71 Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.

The Boilermakers are in action again on Oct. 25 and 26 at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge.
