Box Score

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue and DePaul tied at 2-2 during their exhibition match Saturday night at IPFW Soccer Showcase. Incredibly, all four goals were scored in less than four minutes (52:44 to 56:00).

Freshman forward Jill Sarbaugh started the fireworks with a tip shot over the head of DePaul goalkeeper Lindsay Deason. Kristin Lichtenberg was credited with the assist.

The Blue Demons responded with an equalizer from Lauren Spacht on an assist from Julianne Stitch less than two minutes later. Spacht fired the shot from beyond the penalty box area, and buried the ball into the right corner past Purdue goalkeeper Lauren Mason.

Before DePaul had a chance to reset its defense, the Boilermakers were on the attack once again. Sarbaugh rifled a shot at Deason, which deflected back out to freshman midfielder Shauna Stapleton. With Deason out of the way, Stapleton easily manuevered around two defenders and put Purdue back on top, 2-1.

The lead lasted for all of 39 seconds, before Spacht scored her second goal of the night on an assist from Erin Davern.

After the flurry had subsided, the match remained relatively calm for the final half hour. Purdue gave itself a few chances to score late, but was unable to convert. The Boilermaker's best opportunity was off a Kim Comisar corner kick with six minutes remaining.

Comisar's kick landed near the goal line between Deason and Sarbaugh, but the Blue Demon's keeper was able to smother the ball and make the save.

Highlights were few and far between for both teams in the first half, as the squads combined for six shots, three of which were on goal. For Purdue, Sarbaugh was once picked off by Deason, as was Comisar whose shot from the top of the penalty box found Deason's mitts.

Mason finished the 90-minute match with two saves, picking off shots from Jennifer Dyer and Erin Walter. Deason completed the match with six saves, four of which came in the final stanza. Purdue outshot DePaul for the game 12-9; 9-6 in the second half.

Purdue opens its regular season with a home opener against Cincinnati next Saturday at 2 p.m.
