ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Purdue men's golf team finished fourth at the 2004 Big Ten Championships on Sunday. Michigan hosted the event in Ann Arbor.
Purdue fired a final-round 284 on Sunday. Penn State was tied with the Boilermakers on Saturday but fired a 293. The Boilermakers totaled an 860 over the two days. Ohio State won the event after a three-round total of 842.
The Boilermakers were led by senior Luke Epp. He fired a final-round 70, lowest score of the weekend for Purdue. Epp tied for seventh overall after a three-round total of 213.
Freshman Peter Richardson and senior Shiv Kapur both tied for 17th overall after totaling 216 over the two days. Richardson shot a final-round 73, while Kapur carded a 72.
Freshman Pariya Junhasavasdikul tied for 22nd overall. He fired a 71on Saturday and totaled a 217.
Junior Dustin Cone tied for 47th after a 71 on Sunday and a total of 226.
Kapur and Richardson both earned conference honors. Kapur was named first-team All-Big Ten and Richardson was named second-team All-Big Ten.
The Boilermakers finished fifth in last years event. Purdue is ranked No. 54 in the latest Golfweek.com poll. Kapur is the 120th ranked player in the country and Richardson is No. 124.
The Boilermakers now await word if they advanced to the NCAA Regional Championships.
