WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's golf team led after all three rounds en route to capturing the 2004 Boilermaker Invitational on the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on Sunday. Four Boilermakers finished in the top 15 overall.

The tournament win significantly enhances the Boilermakers' chances of advancing to the NCAA Regional Championships, which will be played on Purdue's Kampen Course in May. The Pete Dye-designed Kampen Course is a par 72, 7,200-yard layout.

"Our guys really gutted out the final 18 holes," said head coach Devon Brouse. "I'm proud of how they played today to hold onto this victory."

The victory is the first for Purdue since it captured the NCAA Central Regional Championship in 2002.

Purdue fired a final-round 293 and edged Colorado by two strokes for the win. Purdue totaled 855 over the three rounds. The Buffaloes made things tight by shooting a 285 on Sunday.

"Kentucky made some birdies early, and then Colorado made a late charge," said Brouse. "This was a very talented field, and now we have to try and play well away from home."

The Boilermakers were led by senior Shiv Kapur, who tied for third overall. Kapur totaled 212 over the three rounds.

Freshman Peter Richardson tied for sixth place after a final-round 73 gave him a two-day total of 213. Freshman Pariya Junhasavasdikul finished 10th after a 215.

Senior Dustin Cone tied for 14th place after a 217. Cone fired a team-low 68 in the second round on Saturday.

Freshman Johan Edin tied fro 42nd after a 225. He posted a 74 on Sunday.

Seven of the Boilermakers' 10 rounds were under par, including four in the second round. The 18-team field includes eight Big Ten schools and several top programs from around the Midwest. Four of the top 20 ranked schools competed in the field.

The Boilermakers are in action again on April 17 and 18 at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio.
