WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermakers managed just one hit against the Iowa Hawkeyes, en route to a 6-0 loss in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader. The team looks to rebound in the night cap of the twin bill slated to begin at 2 p.m.

After three scoreless inning, Iowa broke into the runs column in the top of the fourth. A trio of one-out hits gave the Hawkeyes a pair of runs. Amanda Hentges started the rally with double to left, then came around to score on a deep single up the middle by Stacy May. May advanced to second on the throw home, then scored as Kylie Murray sent a single up the middle. A line out and ground ball to short ended the inning.

The Hawkeyes added to their lead in the fifth after putting their first two runners on base via walk and a bloop single. Lisa Birocci drew the lead-off walk, then Laura Chipman moved pinch runner Jenna Spratt over with a single into short center field. An Emily Gerlick sacrifice bunt advanced both runners into scoring position for Natalie Johnson, who reached on a two-base error by the left fielder, bringing in both runs. Johnson then scored two plays later as May reached on a fielding error by the second baseman. A fly out left May stranded.

Iowa added another run in the sixth on a fielder's choice, a sacrifice bunt and a base hit. Sami Baugh reached on a fielder's choice, then moved to second on a sacrifice by Birocci. Chipman then doubled to center to drive in the run.

The Boilermakers finally busted up Birocci's perfect game when senior Angela Knight posted an infield single to lead off the bottom of the seventh. A pair of strikeouts and a pop up, however, kept Purdue from scoring.

Freshman Brooke Baker struck out four Hawkeyes in the complete game effort, while Birocci fanned 12 Boilermakers in the shutout win.

Purdue looks to break into the Big Ten win column in the night cap of the doubleheader, which is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
