WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over Penn State at the Varsity Courts on Sunday. The win improved the 75th-ranked Boilermakers' record to 7-10 overall and 2-4 in the Big Ten, while the 56th-ranked Nittany Lions dropped to 11-7 overall an 2-4 in the league.

The Boilermakers took the first point of the match by winning two of three doubles contests. Senior Troy Havens and junior David Robinson teamed for a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles, while juniors Sounak Chatterjee and Filip Koziell came through with a victory at No. 2.

In singles, sophomore Paul Rose delivered a 7-5, 6-1 win over Malcolm Scatcliffe at No. 1, while Havens outlasted Roddy Cantey at No. 2.

Sophomore Colin Foster won in straight sets over Todd Stecko at No. 4, and freshman Jarred Leibner outlasted Bradley Hunter for the match-clinching victory at No. 6.

Purdue head coach Tim Madden said his team battled through some shaky moments to post the victory.

"We did not have a good start in doubles, and we were up and down in singles," Madden said. "Somehow we found a way to get it done, which is important for our confidence."

Madden was most proud of Rose.

"Paul competed well from start to finish," Madden said. "He definitely is our most consistent guy, day in and day out.

The Boilermakers will play Michigan and Michigan State on the road next weekend.
