The Big Ten Championships: The Purdue women enter their 27th outdoor conference championships this weekend (May 16-18) at the University of Minnesota ... the women's team placed fourth last season in Madison, Wis., with 90.3 points ... Purdue captured three championships at the 2002 meet; Ebbie Metzinger (pole vault), Serene Ross (javelin) and Ann Stechschulte (10,000) ... the women's most recent championship was earned in 1999 under the guidance of Ben Paolillo ... the women Boilermakers also won the Big Ten title in 1997 with Fred Wilt at the helm ... the men's squad will enter its 101st Big Ten Championship meet ... the men's third-place finish last year at Wisconsin was their highest since 1990 when they finished runner-up ... the Boilermaker men earned 112 points at the 2002 conference championships, with Donnie Fellows capturing the 10,000 title and Jacques Reeves earning the 200 crown ... full-session tickets are currently on sale through Minnesota's Athletics Department web site at www.gophersports.com.

Billy Hayes Recap: Purdue's track and field teams spent Mother's Day at Indiana University for the Billy Hayes Invitational ... the one-day invite featured more than a dozen teams including Marshall, Ball State, Indiana State and Miami (Ohio) ... gusty weather conditions hindered most performances but enabled others ... Kenneth Baxter scored victories in the 100 and 200 meter dashes ... Prentice Stovall and Jamar Green qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in the 200 ... Stovall again qualified for regionals in the 110 hurdles with his first-place time of 14.00 seconds ... Shaun Guice won his fourth high jump title ... Simona Kovacic placed second in the pole vault ... John Paul Smolenksi established a new career best in the hammer, with a launch of 61.98 meters (203-4) ... Courtney Magnuson earned runner-up status in the hammer ... Scott Hecht captured his fifth shot put title of the season ...the women's 4x100 meter realy team qualified for regionals with its second-place time of 46.17 ... the women's 4x400 squad finished first in 3:50.83.

Baxter's Blazing: Kenneth Baxter saved a great performance for Purdue's regular-season finale at the Billy Hayes Invitational ... Baxter's first-place time of 10.72 seconds in the 100-meter dash tied a career best ... the junior's winning mark in the 200 (20.86) established a career high and is the fifth fastest outdoor time in school history ... Baxter's wins were his first since the season-opening Purdue Invitational ... the New York City native is also part of the school's record setting 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.

Three More Equals 30: Entering the Big Ten Championships Purdue has 30 individuals prepared to compete at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships in Columbus, Ohio ... the club's latest additions are Shanna Carter, LaShauna Harris and Shanette Stewart, who qualified as part of the 4x100 meter relay team that finished in 46.17 at the Billy Hayes Invite ... the quartet's fourth member, Krissy Liphardt, previously qualified in the 400 hurdles.

The Boilermaker 200: Four Boilermakers are slated to compete in the 200 at regionals ... Jacques Reeves and Kenneth Baxter were the first of the Old Gold and Black to qualify ... Baxter originally qualified at the Sea Ray Relays in April ... Reeves qualified last week against Indiana, recording a first-place time of 20.97 seconds ... Prentice Stovall and Jamar Green joined the 200 club with their marks at the Billy Hayes Invitational ... Stovall landed in third with a career-best time of 21.08 ... Green placed fourth at 21.12.

Hammer Records To Fall: John Paul Smolenski's third-place hammer launch of 61.98 (203-4) at the Billy Hayes Invite established a career best ... Smolenski has recorded a new personal best in five meets this season ... his latest throw placed him fourth on Purdue's all-time top outdoor performance list ... all six of J.P.'s tosses have landed further than the regional qualifying standard.
