There's Carri Long - The Assistant Coach: Track and field assistant coach Carri Long easily won the high jump title at the Sea Ray Relays ... Long, competing as a member of the Indiana Invaders Track Club, reached a height of 1.77 meters (5 feet, 9 3/4 inches) ... as a student-athlete, Long earned four All-America citations in the high jump and two Big Ten championships ... since graduating in May of 2000, Long has competed at the Olympic trials, the World University Games and the United States Track and Field Championships.

And There's Carrie Long - The Student-Athlete: Coach Long's prot?g?, Carrie Long, a local product from West Lafayette's Harrison High School, achieved an eighth-place height of 1.67 meters (5-5 3/4) in the high jump ... Long's effort was .03 meters short of the NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 1.70 meters.

Hecht's Heaves Part Deux: Hecht's hammer (59.19, 194-02) and shot put (18.28 59-11 3/4) throws at the Sea Ray Relays were both personal bests and qualified him for the NCAA Regional Championships ... every one of Hecht's hammer throws this outdoor season has qualified him for regionals ... Hecht has collected two wins in two attempts in the shot put ... he also won at the Purdue Invitational (3/28) ... the junior took home the shot put title at the 2002 Sea Ray Relays ... his discus launch at the 2003 Sea Rays was his second best effort of the season.

Miami Invitational Recap: Pole vaulters Simona Kovacic and Amy Spellmeyer finished one-two at the Miami Invitational, leading Purdue's women's track and field team to a third-place showing with 141 points ... Kovacic's victorious leap of 4 meters (13-1 1/2) was a season and personal best and established a new meet record ... Spellmeyer's second-place height of 3.66 meters (12 feet) qualified her for a spot at the NCAA Regional Tournament ... Hence Williams was only one of ten male Boilermakers present at the Miami Invite ... despite the small roster, the Purdue men still placed a respectable sixth, collecting 44 points ... Williams' win in the pole vault (5.00, 16-4 3/4) was one of two victories collected by the men's team ... distance runner David Rae won the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes, 17.19 seconds ... Kim Jordan collected her third- straight win in the 800, completing her lap in 2:11.70 ... running mate Meghan McNeilly placed second, finishing in 2:12.85 ... Gina Harvey recorded her fastest time of the season in the 400 at 55.13 ... Harvey also registered a season best in the 200, finishing second in 24.54 seconds ... Krissy Liphardt's second place showing of 1:00.52 in the 400 hurdles qualified her for a spot at the regional championships ... Liphardt's time was her fastest of the season ... the Miami Invite featured nine men and seven female squads ... Ball State stole the men's team title with 210 points ... Miami easily captured the women's title with 253 points.

Sea Ray Relays Recap: Nineteen Boilermakers competed at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. ... the meet was held on the University of Tennessee's Tom Black Track ... Prentice Stovall improved on his season best in the 110 meter hurdles, recording an NCAA Regional Championship qualifying time of 14.19 seconds ... Kenneth Baxter placed fifth in the 200, with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 21.11 seconds ... Baxter's mark is the fastest for Purdue this season ... the 4x100 relay team of Baxter, Jamar Green, Jacques Reeves and Stovall placed first, finishing in 40.14 seconds ... Stovall hooked up with Matt Simmons, Dedrick Tillerson and Kern Woods for the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdles and placed fourth ... this was Purdue's first shuttle relay race since 1998 (Drake Relays)

Coming Up: The Boilermakers venture west this weekend when they head to Walunt, Calif., for the Mt. San Antonio College Relays ... competition begins in the "Golden State" on Thursday, April 17, and runs through April 19 ... the remainder of the squad heads down I-65 to Indianapolis, Ind. for the Butler Invitational on April 19.
