FAYETTEVILLE, Ar. - Senior Shaun Guice became the first male Purdue track & field athlete to achieve All-America honors in four consecutive seasons after he reached a height of 2.17-meters (7 feet, 1.5 inches) in the high jump Saturday night at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Corissa Yasen was the first Boilermaker to recieve All-America recognition in four straight seasons. The former Purdue high jumper earned this prestigious distinction a total of eight times, during the indoor and outdoor seasons from 1993-1996.

Guice has earned All-America honors at indoor championship meets in 2000, 2001 and 2002, and at the 2000 and 2001 outdoor championships. The six-time All-American set the school's high jump record of 2.26 (7-5) on March 10, 2001; his season best of 2.21 (7-3) was attained at the Purdue Invitational in January.

Jerrick Holmes of Northridge earned first-place honors after reaching a height of 2.23 (7-3 3/4). Adam Shunk placed second at 2.20 (7-2 1/2), while Guice and N.C. State's Jesse Williams tied for third.

Guice's leap increased the Boilermakers point total to 10.5, which placed them 19th of 63 teams (through 15 events). Friday, sprinter Kenneth Baxter scored five points for Purdue after placing 4th in the 200-meter dash.

The 19th-place finish is the highest ever for a Purdue men's track & field squad. The school's previous best outing came in 1987 when the team placed 22nd.

Nedzad Mulabegovic was Purdue's only other competitor Saturday. The Croatian sophomore, who set the school's shot put record (19.53, 64-1) as a freshman, placed tenth with an effort of 18.73 (61-5 1/2). His furthest launch of the season (19.05, 63-11 3/4) was set versus Ohio State and Indiana in January.

Nebraska's Carl Myerscough won the national championship in shot put after recording a launch of 21.49 (70-6 1/4). The Buckeye's Dan Taylor (21.33, 69-11 3/4) and Christian Cantwell (20.64, 67-8 3/4) rounded out the top-three.

Both Purdue track and field teams will take one week off from competition before starting their outdoor seasons on Friday, March 28. That weekend, only half of the Boilermakers will be competing at home for the Purdue Invitational, while the others venture westward for the Stanford Invitational.
