Tracksters Good But Not Good Enough At Alex Wilson Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Six Purdue track and field athletes looked to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame on Saturday.

Although none did, there were some impressive performances.

In the 60-meter dash, senior Prentice Stovall and junior Kenneth Baxter placed first in their heat with times of 6.76 and 6.81, while junior Joey Harris was second in his heat at 6.86 and junior Jacques Reeves was fourth in his heat at 7.03. In the finals, Stovall was second at 6.75 and Baxter was third at 6.81. The NCAA automatic qualifying time is 6.62.

Reeves ran second in the 200 meters at 21.35; the qualifying mark is 20.85. Stovall posted a 47.66 in the 400 meters; that qualifying standard is 46.32.

Redshirt freshman Jerod Void recorded an 8.58 in the 60-meter hurdles, shy of the automatic qualifying time of 7.74.

Facing a qualifying mark of 2:06.20 in the 800 meters, senior Kim Jordan ran a 2:10.64.

Entering the meet, Baxter, Reeves, Stovall and Void all had at least an NCAA 'B' or provisional cut time. They will learn their fate early next week.

Baxter has qualfied for the NCAA's in the 200 meters with a 21.07 effort against Indiana and Ohio State on Jan. 25.

The NCAA Championships are March 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark.
