WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's track and field team is ranked 17th in the nation, according to the Trackwire preseason top 25 poll, released this week. The poll is a predictor of how many points a team is expected to score at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships.

In 2002, the men's team finished third at the cancelled Big Ten Indoor Championships and tied for 35th at the NCAA Championships. Four individuals broke six school records during the indoor season, including Prentice Stovall's 60m mark, which also broke the Big Ten record. Nedzad Mulabegovic returns as the reigning Big Ten champion in the shot put, while Shaun Guice, Keith McBride and Pooh Williams, along with Mulabegovic and Stovall, return as NCAA qualifiers.

The Boilermakers will look to pick up some NCAA provisional cut marks Saturday, as they open the season at home with the Purdue Invitational in Lambert Fieldhouse at 10 a.m.
