WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Willie Deane scored 22 points and Purdue scored 22 straight points in a 95-65 win over San Diego Saturday night to win its 11th Boilermaker Invitational.

The Boilermakers (4-1) have won 11 of 12 Boilermaker Invitationals and have a 23-1 career record in the two-day tournament. Middle Tennessee State beat Indiana-Purdue-Indianapolis 64-60 in the consolation game.

Kenny Lowe and Darmetreis Kilgore each scored 16 points for the Boilermakers, which made 14 of 25 3-pointers and shot 52 percent from the field.

Purdue, exactly like it did Friday against Middle Tennessee State, plodded through the opening minutes before creating turnovers and hitting long-range shots to blow the game open.

The Boilermakers trailed 16-12 before scoring 22 straight points in an 11-minute stretch, getting two 3-pointers from Deane and one from David Teague. They scored off turnovers, put back misses and sank free throws while holding the Toreros (4-2) scoreless for 10:29.

Jason Keep scored 24 points, and Jason Blair had 10 points and 11 rebounds for San Diego.

In the first half, Purdue had eight steals and scored 24 points off 16 San Diego turnovers.

The romp continued in the second half as the Boilermakers made 14 of their first 25 from the field. Deane hit 3s on consecutive possessions, then missed a third straight attempt, but Brett Buscher was there for the rebound and the off balance, one-handed layup. That made it 71-42 and Purdue would lead by as many as 34.

Teague and Buscher each added 12 for Purdue. Teague hasn't made a two-point basket this season, scoring all 36 points on 10 3-pointers and six free throws.

The Boilermakers, who missed the postseason last year for the first time since 1989, are off to the best start since the 1998-99 season and get their biggest challenge of the season next Saturday against No. 10 Indiana at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.

In the final minute, Purdue's student section started chanting "Beat IU!"
