WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's swimming and diving team defeated both Northwestern and Pittsburgh on Friday night at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center to improve to 4-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers tallied 166 points to Northwestern's 134, while they beat Pittsbugh 183-117.

In the first event of the evening, the Boilermakers' 400 medley relay team finished second with a time of 3:52.77. Team members were senior Lisa Dolansky, junior Lindsay Kirchoff, and seniors Patricia Finnerty and Kim Paradeise. The team of sophomore Brandy Keever, senior Karina Bolanos, junior Autumn Sample and sophomore Tracy Duchac finished fourth in 3:53.93.

Freshman Erica Chandler was the Boilermakers' top finisher in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:14.21 for fourth place. Senior Shannon Funk finished sixth and freshman Yvonne Laaper came in 10th.

Chandler turned right around and swam to a first-place finish in the very next event, the 200 free, with a time of 1:51.70, while sophomore Christine Leupold was third in 1:53.59 and junior Jenni Bean was fourth in 1:53.68.

In the 100 backstroke, Dolansky finished first in 57.56 and Keever was second with a time of 58.60. Sophomore Lydia DuNuccio finished fifth and freshman Ashley Koehn came in eighth.

In the 100 breaststroke, Bolanos was Purdue's top finisher in fifth place in 1:06.44 and Kirchoff was close behind in 1:06.48. Freshman Kristen Melville finished ninth.

Sample came in second for the Old Gold and Black with a time of 2:03.73, while Finnerty was fifth in 2:08.44. Sophomore Sara Hayworth finished ninth with a time of 2:14.68.

The Boilermakers tallied finishes of 1-3-7-11 in the 50 free with Ducahc finishing first in 23.94, Paradeise in third with a time of 24.16 and sophomore Katie Seleskie in seventh with a time of 24.82. Sophomore Jill Collins finished 11th with a time of 26.50.

Bean tallied her first first-place finish of the day in the 100 free with a time of 52.05, while Duchac and Paradeise finished 2-3 behind her with times of 52.07 and 52.29. Seleskie finished eighth with a time of 54.35.

In the 200 backstroke, Dolansky finished third with a time of 2:05.56, wile Keever was fourth and DeNuccio was fifth. Hayworth finished seventh in an exhibition time.

Bolanos finished third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:22.77 and Kirchoff was seventh in 2:26.67. Laaper came in 10th and Melville was 11th.

Chandler repeated as the first-place finisher in the 500 free with a time that continues to get closer to the varsity record and freshman record. In 4:57.36, she tallied her second first of the night. Also swimming the 500 were Leupold in fifth, Funk in eighth and sophomore Lindsey Meier in 11th.

In the 100 butterfly, Sample was Purdue's top finisher in third with a time of 57.67. Finnerty was seventh and DeNuccio and Hayworth came in 10th and 11th.

In the 200 IM, Bean came in first again with a time of 2:06.39, while Leupold was fifth, Sample was sixth and Laaper came in ninth.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Chandler, Dolansky, Duchac and Paradeise finished first with a time of 3:29.39. The Boilermakers also grabbed third with the team of Keever, Seleskie, Leupold and Bean with at time of 3:36.94.

On the diving boards, Purdue freshman Carrie McCambridge finished first on the 1-meter board with a score of 280.40 and second on the 3-meter with 252.80 points. Senior Heather Bachman finished fifth on the 1-meter board with a score of 211.65, while finishing fourth on the 3-meter with 233 points. Senior Carrie Dougherty was sixth on the 1-meter board with 180.65 points, while she was fifth on the 3-meter with a score of 209.80. Freshman Amber Kerns was seventh on the 1-meter board with 149.80 points, while finishing 10th on the 3-meter with a score of 126.35

The Boilermakers will return to the water on Friday, Nov. 15, and Saturday, Nov. 16, when they host Georgia Tech and Cincinnati in a co-ed double-dual meet at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center. Meet time is 6 p.m. EST, on Friday and noon EST on Saturday.
