Men's Swimming & Diving Easily Handles Miami (Ohio) In Oxford

OXFORD, Ohio - The Purdue men's swimming & diving team beat the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks on Friday, 165-130, in Oxford, Ohio. The win improves the Boilermakers to 1-0 on the year, while the RedHawks fall to 0-1.

"Tonight, I thought we had a good meet," said Dan Ross. "We did easily handle them and we're looking forward to hosting Iowa tomorrow."

The Boilermakers tallied nine event wins over the RedHawks, beginning with the 200 medley relay. Sophomore Ignatius Goh finished first in the 50 free, while sophomore Steuart Martens finished first in the 500 free. In the 1,000 free, senior Jeremy Wright tallied a first-place finish, while junior Kyle Jackson, freshman Mark Wolfred and freshman Blake Scholz came in 2-3-4.

Sophomore Louis Paul was first in the 100 backstroke, while senior Will Seelbach was first in the 200 backstroke. Junior Tamas Bessenyei was first in the 100 breaststroke and junior Garth Bringman finished first in the 200 breast.

Other notable Boilermaker performances were sophomore Eric Prugh with two second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 free and the relay teams of Scholz, senior Tad Sayce, junior Ian Lehman and sophomore Adam King in the 200 free and Paul, Bessenyei, Sayce and sophomore John Arzner in the 200 medley.

On the diving boards, the Boilermakers' Clay Davis finished second on the 1-meter with a score of 285.80 and junior David Hanisch was fourth with a score of 262.10. On the 3-meter, Davis finished first with 293.25 points, while Hanisch was third with 264.10 points.

The RedHawks took home first-place finishes in the 100 free, the 200 free, the 100 fly, the 200 fly and the 200 IM.

The Boilermakers will return to the water on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m., when they host the Iowa Hawkeyes in the home Big Ten opener at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
