WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Three of eight members of the Purdue track and field team completed action on Wednesday during the first day of action at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Baton Rouge, La.
Senior Ebbie Metzinger finished 13 of 20 in the pole vault competition with a mark of 3.90m/12-9.50. Metzinger completes her career as the school and Big Ten indoor and outdoor pole vault record holder. UCLA's Tracy O'Hare won the event with a mark of 4.10m/13-5.25.
Classmate Ann Stechshulte placed 15th in the 10,000m run with a time of 35:36.91. NC State's Kristin Price won the event in 34:26.63. Conference foe Jamie Krzyminski of Michigan State placed seventh in the event capturing an All-America title.
In his debut at the national championship level, junior Keith McBride placed 17th in a field of 19 in the hammer throw. McBride threw a mark of 60.19m/197-6.00. Andras Haklits of Georgia won the event with a throw of 77.32m/253-8.00.
Thursday's action at LSU gets underway at 3 p.m. with Serene Ross in the javelin throw. Distance runners Barb Wenger (3,000m steeplechase) and Donnie Fellows (10,000m run) will begin competition at 8:10 p.m.
