Records Fall at Mount Sac; Personal Records Set at Indy Relays

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Seniors Donnie Fellows and Ann Stechshulte broke school records in and made NCAA times in the 5,000m run on Saturday at the Mount Sac Invitational.

Fellows' time of 14:02.57 shattered Bill Shuey's 1983 record of 29:23.4. This is Fellows' second school record of the season. On March 30, he tackled Shuey's 10,000m record with a time of 29:02.85.

Stechshulte set the new school record in the women's 5,000m with a time of 16:19.87. Her time eclipsed Andrea Everett's 1986 record of 16:26.77.

In her first event of the meet, Serene Ross improved her NCAA provisional time in the hammer with a mark or 57.46m/188-6.00. Barb Wenger recorded an NCAA provisional time of 10:29.00 in the steeplechase. Pooh Williams recorded a season-best in the pole vault with a seventh-place mark of 5.15m/16-10.75. Brian Smith also placed seventh in the javelin with a throw of 62.46m/204-11.00.

INDY RELAY RESULTS

Members of the Boilermaker track and field team also competed successfully at the Indy Relays hosted by Butler.

Senior Janelle Johnson won the triple jump with a mark of 11.86m/38-11.00 and placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.64m/18-6.00. Rookie Kern Woods won the 110m hurdles in 15.07 and placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.91m/22-8.00.

Sophomore Daniel Harris won the triple jump with a mark of 14.68m/48-2.00. Classmate Tiffany Britten placed third in the shot put with a lifetime personal record of 14.00m/45-11.25. Freshman Nedzad Mulabegovic took first in the shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 18.60m/61-0.50.

Chris White had a big day in the discus and shot put. He placed second in the discus with a mark of 69.00m/160-9.00, and was third in the shot with a throw of 16.82m/55-2.25. Lisa Davis placed fourth in the hammer with a mark of 51.00m/167-4.00.

Kyle Orender continued his success on the track with a first-place finish in the 1,500m at 3:52.23 and a second-place finish in the 800 at 1:53.69. Jon Hoggatt was fifth in the 800 with a time of 1:54.84. Christian Bahler won the 1,500 with a season best time of 4:42.00. Doug Payne finished second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.57, ahead of teammate Tom Aliff who finished third in 54.02.
