ORLANDO, Fla. - The Purdue softball team tallied its 20th win of the year, taking its record to 20-9, today with a 7-1 win over George Mason at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. This is the first time in Purdue history that the Boilermaker women have notched 20 wins by the end of their Spring Break tour and before they open their home schedule.
The Boilermakers gathered their seven runs on 14 hits with only one error, while George Mason earned one run on three hits, while committing two errors.
Highlighting the hitting performance of Purdue, senior shortstop Katie Crabtree came through and hit her ninth home run of the year, a three-run bomb, in the bottom of the first to put the Boilermakers up, 3-0. Junior catcher Jesse Jones also hit her second home run of the year, a solo shot. Junior left fielder Angi Roembke had a great day at the plate, going 3 for 4, while freshman Andrea Hillsey was perfect in the box, going 4 for 4.
Senior Meagan Dooley returns from her spring break with a perfect record of 5-0. She improves her overall 2002 record to 7-2 before entering the non-conference home schedule. Junior Leighann Burke also saw time on the mound today, finishing in relief for Dooley.
The Boilermakers will return to the field when they open the 2002 home schedule at the Varsity Softball Complex on Wednesday, March 20. The Old Gold and Black will host the IUPUI Jaguars in the non-conference doubleheader action, beginning at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast in the Lafayette area on WAZY 1410-AM and will be webcast on www.purduesports.com. Listeners will hear Sports Information Director Tom Schott call the action from scenic West Lafayette, Ind.
