Women's Golf In Second Place After First Day Of Central District Invitational

PARRISH, Fla. -- The Purdue women's golf team is in second place after the first day of the Central District Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event wraps up on Tuesday.

The No. 24 Boilermakers shot a 594 over the first two rounds. They carded a 302 on the first 18 holes and fired a 292 in the afternoon. Purdue trails Michigan State by six strokes for the lead.

The Boilermakers were led by senior Andrea Makauskas, who fired a 146 on the day and is in fifth place overall. Junior All-America candidate Kari Damron carded a 149 and is tied for 11th along with senior Caroline Laurens, who also shot a 149. Junior Heather Zielinski is tied for 29th after a two-round total of 152. Sophomore Beth Hermes is tied for 55th after shooting a 158.

The tournament, hosted by Michigan State, is being played at the 6,113 yard, par-72 River Wilderness Country Club.

The 14-team event features Baylor, Indiana, Kent State, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Purdue, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech.

The final round begins on Tuesday at 8 a.m. EST.
