WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue track and field team finished the regular indoor season with the Boilermaker Open on Saturday. Lissa Olson was pleased by the team's performances.
"I am very encouraged by today's performance," Olson said. "This meet definitely helped to continue the team's enthusiasm. I really feel that both teams are ready for next week's challenge."
Serene Ross and Cynthia Bortz started the tangent of NCAA provisional marks for the Boilermakers. The pair had respective marks of 18.19m/59-8.25 and 17.77m/58-3.75. Pooh Williams was next with a provisional mark of 5.26m/17-3.00 in the pole vault. Kristen Truscott claimed her first NCAA mark with a leap of 1.77m/5-9.75, while Keith McBride upped his mark to 20.11m/65-11.75.
The Boilermakers also broke several school and fieldhouse records. Matt Hartman ran the 600m in 1:18.49, breaking Chance Ruiz's record of 1:18.86 (Feb. 27, 2000). Rookie Kenneth Baxter tied Vinny Sutherland's record of 6.79 (Jan. 16, 1999) in the 60m dash. Assistant coach Carri Long broke the fieldhouse record with a personal best jump of 1.86m/6-1.25.
Ryan Fitzpatric led the field in the high jump with a personal record of 2.13m/6-11.75. Kyle Orender won the 1,600m run with a personal best time of 4:15.59. Janelle Johnson won the long jump with a personal record of 5.74m/18-10.00
