STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Brandon Watkins scored 21 points and freshman Jan Jagla had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead Penn State to an 81-68 victory over Purdue on Wednesday night that snapped the Nittany Lions' six-game losing streak.

Penn State (6-15, 2-8 Big Ten) used an 18-8 run to take a 12-point halftime lead. Jagla scored eight points in less than two minutes during the run.

The Nittany Lions started the second half with a 19-11 run to extend their lead to 65-45, their biggest of the game, with 6:54 left. All five Penn State starters scored in double figures.

Purdue (11-13, 3-7) was led by Rodney Smith with 16 points while John Allison and Willie Deane each scored 13. Allison had all of his points over the opening 8:11.

Penn State outrebounded the Boilermakers by 11, and only missed two of 18 free throws in the second half.

The victory was Penn State's second in their last 11 games.
