WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Willie Deane scored 20 points and Maynard Lewis added 16 as Purdue survived a late run to beat Iowa 73-68 Saturday.

The Boilermakers (11-11, 3-5 Big Ten) shot close to 60 percent over the first 30 minutes, which enabled them to open up a 17-point lead early in the second half.

They then went in an offensive tailspin, going nearly seven minutes without a basket as Iowa (14-8, 3-5) went on a 13-2 run.

A Reggie Evans put-back on Iowa's fourth attempt at the basket made it 65-60 and Ryan Hogan's jumper just inside the 3-point line cut the gap to 66-62 with two minutes remaining.

Purdue's John Allison converted a 3-point play, but Luke Recker, who led Iowa with 20 points, answered with a 3-pointer to keep pull within four points.

Rodney Smith made two free throws, extending the lead to six. Deane could have sealed the win, but he missed two free throws. Recker then followed with a 3-pointer from the baseline with 18 seconds left, but the Hawkeyes wouldn't get closer.

The Boilermakers made only 16 of 26 free throws and were outrebounded 34-17.

Allison had 10 points for Purdue, which shot 50 percent.

Glen Worley added 11 points for Iowa.

Purdue, which beat Northwestern earlier this week, has won two straight games for the first time since Dec. 17 and 20.

The Boilermakers trailed 28-21 in the first half until consecutive 3-pointers by Joe Marshall and Smith started a 15-3 run that put them ahead by five.

Deane and Brett Buscher combined for six points in the final minute to push Purdue's lead to 42-35 at the half.

Purdue shot 54 percent in the first half while Iowa shot 52 percent.
