WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue swimming and diving teams looked impressive today at their inaugural meet in the new Boilermaker Aquatic Center and the Doris Z. Holloway Pool. The Boilermaker men tallied 706 points and the women earned 759.5 in the Indiana Intercollegiate invitational meet. Butler, Ball State, IUPUI, the University of Indianapolis, Valparaiso, and Vincennes took part in the invitational as Purdue's guests.

"Today the women's performance was a great reflection on our new facility," said Purdue women's head coach Cathy Wright-Eger. "We are just so appreciative to have the opportunity to swim in a facility that is this nice and we relish the opportunity to show our fans and supporters that we are worthy of a pool of this caliber. There is no comparison - this was, by far, the fastest October meet we've ever swum."

Aside from opening the new Aquatic Center and hosting the first meet of the year, the Boilermakers' day was also highlighted by the appearance of Mr. Bob Holloway, who was a substantial donor for the building of the facility. The competition pool was named in honor of his wife, Doris, who is also a long-time Purdue supporter.

"It was really great to be able to have Bob here today and it was really nice to finally have that first meet in this great facility," said Purdue men's head coach Dan Ross. "It was also pleasantly surprising to see so many fans and supporters here today for us."

On the weekend, Rion Epping did a great job in the distance events and all the sprint guys added a lot. Overall, it was great to see our freshmen contribute so much and the team seems to be really together. We feel really special to have this facility and I think it shows with our inner confidence."
