Women's Golf Maintains Third Place Standing

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Purdue women's golf team carded a second round 300 and held its third place standing after the second round of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship on Saturday. The Boilermakers are tied for third and only three strokes behind first-place Georgia in the event and trail second place Duke by only two strokes.

The Boilermakers were led by junior Kari Damron who shot a second-round 74 and is tied for second. Senior Caroline Laurens carded a 76 are is tied for eighth place. Sophomore Beth Hermes fired back-to-back 75s and is alone in 19th. Junior Heather Zielinski shot a 75 and moved into a tie for 35th place. Senior Christy Rittenhouse is in 74th place after a two-day total of 173.

"I'm very pleased with the way we played today," said head coach Devin Brouse. "The girls really competed under some difficult weather conditions. We are in the final group with two of the top teams in the nation so it should be very exciting to see what happens tomorrow. So far we've played very well and we are looking for one more solid round."

The final round two will be played tomorrow starting at 9 a.m.
