WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's soccer team fell today, 2-0, to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. The Boilermakers fall to 3-2, while Oakland improves to 4-1. The game was rescheduled from Friday, Sept. 14, after being postponed due to the terrorist bombings in New York and Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.

"We need to learn to set our own tone early-on in the game," said Purdue head coach Rob Klatte. "Today we just brought our intensity level up to where it needed to be too late. I thought that we did a good job of creating offensive opportunities in both halves. Their goalkeeper deserves a lot of credit, she got some good saves and we just could not finish."

The Golden Grizzlies scored first at the 26:44 mark, when Anita Rapp received a pass from Beth Howson at the top of the box and put it in the right side behind Purdue keeper Jocelyn Cavalier.

The Boilermakers fought back with several attempts, including a breakaway shot that was just high by sophomore forward Annette Kent. But, Purdue came up short and Oakland tallied a second goal at 81:12 to seal their win. Erica Demers took a free kick from the left side and knocked it into the middle where Rapp was waiting. Rapp's shot was rejected, but rebounded for Ashley McGhee to find an open spot behind the Purdue defense once again.

In the goal for Purdue, junior Jocelyn Cavalier made her first start of the year and played 90 minutes, while saving five shots and allowing two goals. Her goals-against average stands at 1.50. Cavaliers's counterpart, Sarah Buckland, tallied the start and 90 minutes, while saving nine shots.

As a team, the Boilermakers outshot the Golden Grizzlies 19-8 and tallied four corner kicks to Oakland's one.

The Purdue team will look to get back on track as it hits the road this weekend for the opening weekend of Big Ten competition. The Boilermakers will play at Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. and at Northwestern on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m.
