SEATTLE, Wash. - The Purdue volleyball team lost 18-30, 30-26, 20-30, 30-18 to Washington in its second match of the Point Huskies Invitational tournament. The Boilermakers are 0-2 on the season, while the Huskies improve to 1-1.

"We're getting lots of our questions answered," head coach Jeff Hulsmeyer said. "We are playing well defensively and our block looks really good for this early stage of the season. All the components are there. Now we've just got to put it all together."

Senior Maegan Petersen led Purdue in kills with nine and digs with 13. Sophomore Eryn Leach turned in eight kills and led both squads with eight blocks. Rookie Leah Wishmeier had six kills for the day, while junior Tiffany Yoskey paced the Boilermakers with a career-high three service aces.

The Boilermakers could not overcome an early six-point deficit in Game 1 as Washington jumped out to an 8-2 lead. Purdue's woes increased as the Huskies went on a 13-7 run to increase their lead to 21-9. The Old Gold and Black went on a 6-3 run of its own, but it was not enough to hold off Washington. The Huskies went on to win 30-18.

The Boilermakers were hungry for a win in Game 2. Petersen began the contest with two kills to give Purdue the 2-0 advantage. Kills from Yoskey and sophomore Joanna Lowry, two blocks from Leach and a netting error by Washington allowed the Boilermakers to take the 8-4 lead. The Huskies responded by going on a 13-4 run, bringing the score to 17-12. Purdue tied the score 25-all and didn't look back. The Old Gold and Black forced two Husky out-of-bounds errors to take the 27-25 lead. A kill from Leach and a service ace by Washington gave the Boilermakers the game point situation at 29-26. Leach and Petersen connected for the block assist to give Purdue the 30-26 win.

Purdue could not extend its desire into the later two games, as Washington went on to win 30-20 and 30-18.

The Boilermakers will play their last match of the tournament at 5:30 p.m. against BYU.
