Women's Golf In Fourth Place After Round One of Betsy Rawls Classic

After one round of play at the Betsy Rawls Classic in Austin, Texas, the Purdue women's golf team finds itself tied for fourth overall with two of its members in the top 20 individually.

"We saw some definite improvement," head coach Devon Brouse said. "We are in perfect position to move up tomorrow, and we're encouraged by the nice weather."

As a team, the Boilermakers shot 306, just seven strokes off the lead. Kari Damron and Heather Zielinski finished in the top 20 for the Boilermakers after the first round. Damron shot a one over par 73, good enough for fourth place while Zielinski shot a 76, good enough for 12th place. Caroline Laurens just missed the top 20, finishing 22nd overall with a 78. Beth Hermes continues to improve, shooting a 79, finishing 30th. In 44th place is Christy Rittenhouse, finishing her first round with an 81. Andrea Makauskas competed as an individual and shot an 80 for the first round, good enough for 38th place.

The Boilermakers compete in round two tomorrow with tee times set for 9 a.m.
