RALEIGH, N.C. - The Purdue softball bounced back after a loss to North Carolina on Saturday night in the first bracket game of the Triangle Classic to defeat the Liberty Lady Flames, 4-1. The Boilermakers improve to 8-2 on the season.

"We had some really nice hits from the bottom part of the lineup today that helped us," said Purdue head coach Carol Bruggeman. "Those players came through for us, especially Laura Martin who did exactly what we needed the batter in the DP spot to do--get two hits and a homerun."

The Boilermakers' win was put on track when Angi Roembke started the bottom of the second inning off with a single to center field. Then Martin came to the plate and singled, putting Roembke on second. Keely Povlitz then added a double, which scored Roembke.

In the top of the third, Katie Crabtree made a great defensive play by turning a double play and ending the inning for the Lady Flames, but bringing the Boilermakers back to the plate.

It was Roembke again, that started it off for Purdue with a single and a stolen base to place herself on second. Povlitz then reached base on an error and Holly Streed added a double, scoring both Roembke and Povlitz.

Martin finished her offensive rally in the bottom of the sixth as she added a home run, her first of the season, for the Old Gold and Black's fourth and final run of the game.

Pitching for the Boilermakers was Nicole Crouse (3-1) with the start and the win and Meagan Dooley with the save. Crouse lasted for 5.2 innings and faced 18 batters. She allowed two hits and one run while walking four and striking out four. In Dooley's stint, she faced five batters, struck out one and allowed one hit.

The Boilermakers will return to the field when they continue bracket play. They will take on East Carolina at 2 p.m.
