No. 7 Boilermakers Clinch Big Ten Title Outright

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Katie Douglas scored 21 points and No. 7 Purdue clinched the Big Ten regular-season championship outright for the third time, beating Minnesota 96-43.

The Boilermakers (23-4, 14-1), who set a season high for points, also have a won a share of three additional conference titles in the last 10 years.

Douglas, along with four others, is part of a senior class that is 104-23, the second-highest wins total in Big Ten history, one behind the record Iowa set in 1980. Purdue also has won the last three Big Ten tournament titles and the 1999 NCAA championship.

Purdue dominated from the outset, making 10 3-pointers and shooting over 60 percent for most of the game.

Shereka Wright, who scored 15 points, was 4-of-4 on 3-pointers. Douglas and Kelly Komara each made three, and Komara also scored 15 points. Shalicia Hurns added 14.

The Boilermakers stretched a 20-point halftime lead to 39 with 10 minutes left and led by as many as 54.

Kadidja Anderson led Minnesota (8-17, 1-13) with 12 points. The Golden Gophers shot only 33 percent and committed 24 turnovers.

The Boilermakers made nine of their first 17 shots and, after getting two straight 3-pointers from Wright, led 25-8.

The Boilermakers later went on a 20-11 run and led 45-25 at the half.
