WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue used runs of 12-0 and 21-6, and Carson Cunningham scored 21 points to lead five players in double figures in an 83-68 win Saturday over Minnesota.
Purdue (13-6, 5-3 Big Ten) held a 17-point halftime lead, but Michael Bauer hit two 3-pointers to help cut the gap to 54-50 with 11:35 left. Shortly after Bauer's second 3-pointer, he collapsed on the floor while going for a rebound. He grabbed his left arm in pain and was helped off the court. He scored 12 points and had eight rebounds.
From there, Kenny Lowe took over for Purdue. He scored 11 points of his 12 points in a three-minute stretch to push the lead to 65-50.
Cunningham hit his fourth 3-pointer of the game and Maynard Lewis followed with a three-point play for a 70-52 lead.
Cunningham scored a season-high point total, thanks to 4-of-8 shooting from 3-point range.
The Boilermakers made 7-of-11 3-point attempts in the first half, and shot 57 percent overall.
Terrance Simmons led Minnesota (15-5, 3-4) with 17 points, and Shane Schilling had 15.
The Boilermakers had an 11-point lead cut to five with just over five minutes left in the first half.
Lewis and Cunningham each hit 3-pointers and sparked a 12-0 run to finish with a 44-27 halftime lead.
John Allison and Rodney Smith each scored 15 points and Lewis had 12. The five players in double figures scored 75 of the 83 points.
