Boilermaker Women Hit The Road For Another Win

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Purdue women's swim improved its record to 10-1 (3-1 Big Ten) today with a 128-115 win over Big Ten opponent Michigan State. The Boilermakers came away from the meet with six first-place finishes out of 13 events.

"Today, the team really fought hard," Purdue head coach Cathy Wright-Eger said. "The effects of our Christmas training trip are still with us and we really had to swim hard to come away with the win today. I'm very proud of the way the women responded, especially at the end of the meet."

In the first event of the afternoon, Purdue came out strong and took the first-place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:51.56. Team members included sophomores Lisa Dolansky, Lindsay Lange and Patricia Finnerty and senior Gyongyver Lakos.

The Old Gold and Black gathered their second first-place finish of the day in the 1,650 freestyle. Junior Kelly Mackus finished the race with a time of 17:29.19.

The one-meter diving competition netted Purdue second- and third-place finishes by junior Molly MacFarlane with 266.93 points and R-junior Kara Hajek with 255.60 points. Sophomores Heather Bachman and Carrie Dougherty finished sixth and seventh.

Lakos took her second first-place of the day with a time of 1:51.04 in the 200 freestyle. Sophomore Kim Paradeise came in third with a time of 1:54.90.

The Boilermakers' fourth event victory came as senior Missy Bromley finished the 50 freestyle in 24.55. Lange garnered a personal season-best time of 25.06 and a third-place finish.

In the 200 individual medley, freshman Jenni Bean swam to a third-place finish with a time of 2:07.73 while freshman Autumn Sample swam a personal season-best time of 2:09.64 for fourth-place.

Hajek was able to improve her scores on the three-meter board for a second-place finish with 253.88 points. MacFarlane finished third with 242.18 points while Dougherty and Bachman improved to fifth and sixth, respectively.

In the eighth event of the afternoon, Sample finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:06.47. Finnerty came in close behind with a time of 2:07.12 for third place.

Paradeise captured another first-place finish for Purdue in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.28 while Bromley finished second with a time of 53.73.

Dolansky finished second in 2:05.50 for second place in the 200 backstroke. Bean finished with a time of 2:10.30 for fifth place.

In the second distance event of the day, Mackus finished third for the Boilermakers in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:08.22 and sophomore Laura Dill finished fourth in 5:16.20.

The 200 breaststroke provided a one-two finish for the Boilermakers with senior Brianna Reina finishing in 2:20.76 and junior Ronica Rogalski finishing in 2:23.95.

The Boilermakers sealed their victory with their sixth first-place finish of the day in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:43.30. Team members were Paradeise, Dolansky, Dill and Lakos.

The Old Gold and Black will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. when they host the Hoosiers of Indiana at 1 p.m. The meet will be the final home meet of the season and the final women's meet ever in Lambert Pool.
