DALLAS, TEXAS - The Purdue women's soccer team finished off the season with a mighty 2-0 victory over No. 14 ranked Southern Methodist tonight at Westcott Field. This was Purdue's eighth shutout of the season, a new school record for most shutouts in a single season. The Boilermakers move to 12-6 while the Mustangs fall to 13-4-1.

"This win is as big as it gets for us," Purdue head coach Rob Klatte said. "We went into their home field tonight and took away another win for our season. This win gives us a firm belief in our ability to beat quality teams under any circumstances. This should give us the momentum that we need to head into the Big Ten Tournament and play well."

The game started off very quickly with Purdue having two solid chances to score before the first goal came at the 3:31 mark. Freshman Annette Kent had two near misses before cashing in on her sixth goal of the season off of a stolen pass from freshman Jennie Moppert. Moppert tallied her third assist of the 2000 campaign.

After the break, the Mustangs came back out very aggressively on both offense and defense. Play was dominated by SMU on the Purdue end of the field but the Boilermakers' midfield and defensive back line held strong and assisted junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Boldt in earning her eighth personal shutout of the season.

SMU's best offensive attack came in the middle of the second half when the ball came in high, almost out of the reach of Boldt. But fortunately for the Boilermakers, Boldt's best defensive play of the game came at the same time. Boldt was able to tip the ball away and, despite hitting the crossbar, keep it away from the Mustangs' for the score.

Boldt played all 90 minutes in the goal for Purdue, tallying five saves on 13 total shots. Her goals-against average fell to an impressive 0.84 and her personal record stands at 12-6.

Purdue now looks to take the momentum off this win into the Big Ten Tournament in Champaign, Ill. The tournament is Nov. 2-5, 2000. The Boilermakers' have secured the seventh seed in the tournament after finishing the season tied for sixth with Iowa and Minnesota. Purdue will find out who its opponent is on Saturday, Nov. 28, when the Big Ten releases the tournament bracket.
