WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's soccer team shutout the Indiana, 1-0 today at the Varsity Soccer Complex. The Boilermakers win set the school record for single-season shutouts with seven. The win also sets a school record for most victories in a single season and takes Purdue to 10-6 (5-5 Big Ten). The Hoosiers fall to 7-8-1 (1-8-1 Big Ten) and have now gone over 450 minutes without a goal.

"I'm very happy for our players," Purdue head coach Rob Klatte said. "We showed today that we rely on many players to contribute every game and we got our game-winning goal out of a player who definitely contributes every game, but had the scoring opportunity today. Jenny Kinkead did a very nice job of finishing the game for us."

Kinkead, a freshman defender, was able to put the ball in the back of the net, just out of the reach of Indiana goalkeeper Chrissy Heubi. The goal, a driving shot from 16 yards out on the left side, occurred at 41:26 and was Kinkead's first of the season. Sophomore defender Elise Berry assisted her first of the year.

Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Boldt tallied 90 minutes in the goal, saved three, and faced 10 total shots while racking up her sixth shutout of the season. She now stands as the school leader for single-season shutouts (6.5). Her goals-against average improves to 0.89.

"We did what we set out to accomplish today," Klatte said. "Our win today took care of the conference standings for us and now we'll have to wait on the other Big Ten scores to see where we fall."

The win today for the Boilermakers cements their first appearance in the Big Ten Tournament. However, the Purdue team will have to wait until Oct. 27 to see where it will fall in the pairings. A late-season game between Michigan State and Penn State will have an effect on how the fifth through eighth place standings fall.

"I think that we also put ourselves in good position for a possible NCAA Tournament bid," Klatte said. "We have to continue to play hard and win the rest of our games that are non-conference."

The Boilermakers will look to build on that possibility and will return to action on Sunday when they travel to Indianapolis to take on the Butler Bulldogs. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
