WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's soccer team fell for only the fourth time this season today 2-0 to the Golden Gophers of Minnesota. The loss takes the Boilermakers to 8-4-0 on the season and 3-3 in Big Ten play. Minnesota improves to 5-6-0 on the season and 3-3 in the Big Ten.
"We just didn't come out ready to play today," Purdue head coach Rob Klatte said. "I have to give Minnesota a lot of credit, they didn't give us many opportunities to score and they were very quick on the ball. We, unfortunately, didn't convert on the few chances we had."
The Golden Gophers outshot Purdue 23-12, while tallying five corner kicks to the Boilermakers' three. The first goal for Minnesota came at the 50:58 mark when Samantha Meyers broke away and deposited the ball into the net. Then at 59:49, Keely Dinse scored the second goal for the Gophers, unassisted.
For Purdue, Elizabeth Boldt played all 90 minutes in the goal, saving nine, allowing two goals, and facing 23 shots.
Purdue will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. when they take on the Wisconsin Badgers at the Purdue Varsity Soccer Complex. Wisconsin plays at Indiana at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6. Their record heading into that game is 8-4-0 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.
"Hopefully we can come out on Sunday and play the way I know we can play," said Klatte.
