COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Purdue women's soccer team continued its winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Big Ten opponent Ohio State today. The win takes the Boilermakers to 7-2 (2-1 Big Ten) while dropping the Buckeyes to 4-5 (0-2 Big Ten). This was also Purdue's fifth shutout of the 2000 season.

"This win is absolutely huge for us," Purdue head coach Rob Klatte said. "Our win tonight is the best possible way for us to advance ourselves in the conference. I think Tari (St.John) is probably playing the best soccer of her life right now. Elise (Berry) and Mary (Masck) also marshaled the defense wonderfully. Their play made all the difference today."

Purdue's lone goal came at the 33:08 mark when freshman Emily Whetter served the ball to freshman Katie Davis. Davis then found junior midfielder Tari St.John in the center of the 18-yard line who shot the ball just out of the reach of Ohio State goalkeeper Amber Barnes. This was Barnes' 17th goal allowed and St.John's third goal of the season.

Boilermaker goalkeeper Elizabeth Boldt also had a good day in the goal, improving her personal record to 7-2, her shutouts to 4.5 and her goals-against average to 0.52.

Purdue's main strength continues to be its depth. Tonight eight different Boilermakers contributed time off the bench.

"Today, again, our depth provided our success and we look for that to continue," Klatte stated. "Different players have stepped up each game and that's what makes us a difficult team to prepare to play."

The Boilermakers continue the weekend on the road as they travel to State College, Pa. to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions. Purdue will kick off against Penn State on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. EST.
