Boilers Fall 9-0 To Notre Dame

April 5, 2000

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team fell 9-0 Wednesday to No. 14 Notre Dame.

"We simply got beat badly by one of the best teams in the country," Purdue head coach Mat Iandolo said. "I feel we could have done better, but this is the type of team you have to shut down early. If you don't get an early start, they'll steamroll you."

In singles action, senior Jennifer Embry pushed her match against Michelle Dasso to three sets. Although Embry lost 5-7 in the first, she came back in the second to defeat Dasso 6-4. The third match was highly competitive causing Embry to bow out 6-3.

"Embry played well coming back from a defeat in the first set," Iandolo said. "She had trouble closing off the third, however. I think a few her first mistakes from the earlier set came back to haunt her."

The Boilermakers will attempt to put today's loss behind them as they prepare to host conference foes Michigan and Michigan State on April 8 and 9, respectively.

"We are going to have to come out and play to win on the big points this weekend," Iandolo said. "I am sure we'll be ready for the big matches we have against Michigan and Michigan State if we keep that in mind."
