Softball Drops 9-2 Decision to Golden Gophers

Minneapolis, Minn. - The Purdue softball team dropped a 9-2 decision to Minnesota in Minneapolis Sunday afternoon to split the two-game series with the Gophers. The Gophers scored six runs, four of them unearned, in the fifth on five hits and two Boilermaker errors. Purdue (32-25, 5-9 Big Ten) is still alive for the post season conference tournament, needing to defeat Indiana twice and a Michigan State loss at Michigan next weekend to qualify.

Offensively, the Boilermakers scored their two runs on nine hits. Sophomore Katie Crabtree hit her 11th home run of the season, her third in three games. Freshman Heidi Foster led all Boilermaker hitters finishing the game 3-for-4. Skeeter Nixon finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. Starter Meagan Dooley (11-9) took the loss for the Boilermakers surrendering two runs in three innings pitched.

The Boilermakers will take on the Hoosiers in a home-and-home two-game series next Saturday and Sunday.
