The Purdue softball team dropped the second of a two game set against Michigan 2-0 at the Varsity Softball Complex on Sunday. The Boilermakers (20-18, 1-3 Big Ten) committed two errors in the second inning that would lead to the Wolverine two run margin of victory.
"I am very disappointed in the way we played defense this weekend," coach Carol Bruggeman said. "We made way too many errors and threw the ball around. In order for us to be successful we cannot give opponents opportunities and base runners in place of outs. We need to get back, defensively, to where we were before this weekend."
Offensively, Purdue matched the Wolverines in hits, with each team collecting five. Freshman Heidi Foster led the way for the Boilers going 2-for-3 off Michigan ace Marie Barda.
Starter Meagan Dooley (7-6) took the loss for Purdue, pitching four innings while surrendering only one of the two runs earned. Leighann Burke pitched the final two innings, working out of a first and second, no out jam in the fifth to keep the Wolverines close.
The Boilermakers return to action on Tuesday when they take on non-conference foe Butler in a double header at the VSC beginning at 2 p.m.
