Boilers in Tenth After Day One

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's swimming and diving team ended the first day of competition at the Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships in tenth place. The top Boilermaker performances of the day were turned in by freestyler Kelly Mackus, diver Molly MacFarlane and the 400 medley relay team of Lisa Dolansky, Lindsay Lange, Patricia Finnerty and Ginger Lakos.

Mackus qualified 16th for the 500 free when she turned in a personal best performance in the prelims, swimming a 4:57.02. In the consolations she finshed seventh, earning the Boilermakers their first two individual points of the championship.

Molly MacFarlane placed tenth in the one-meter diving competiton, and although she narrowly missed the finals by only two spots, her point total of 347.90 scored seven team points for Purdue.

The Boilers scored a total of 57 points on the day, including 26 by the 400 medley relay team that finished sixth and 22 by 200 free relay that touched eighth.

Minnesota leads the meet with a score of 174 points. The prelims begin again tomorrow with the 400 IM at 11 a.m.
