Purdue Falls To Tennessee 0-7

Feb. 12, 2000

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team suffered a 0-7 loss at the hands of the Tennessee Lady Volunteers Saturday in Knoxville. The Boilermakers record became 1-1, while Tennessee improved to 5-1.

Purdue picked up its only win at the No. 1 doubles spot with seniors Jennifer Embry and Shannon Taheny. Currently ranked 28th by the ITA, the co-captain duo picked up an 8-3 decision over the Orange and White's Vilmarie Castellvi and Alison Ojeda.

But, when the pair split up to take on Embry and Taheny separately, they were able to pick up the No. 1 and 2 singles victories. Ojeda, the No. 55th-ranked player in the ITA's, defeated Embry 6-3, 6-3, while No. 50th-ranked Castellvi took Taheny to the wire in a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (2) decision.

The Boilers will have little time to focus on the loss, as they prepare for Sunday's match against Auburn. Purdue will meet the Lady Tigers at 11 a.m. in Alabama.
