WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men and women's swimming and diving teams completed the first day of events at the quad meet in Minneapolis, Minn.
The 23rd-ranked men's team lead No. 24 Wisconsin by a score 112.5-50.5 and trail No. 10 Minnesota 122-44 after the first round.
"It has been a very competitive meet so far," coach Dan Ross said. "Minnesota seems to be just touching us out in every race and we appear to be doing just the same to Wisconsin. The Minnesota team is one of the best teams in the country and looks to be a top ten finisher in the NCAA's. We've had number of season best times and our guys are swimming well. We're looking forward to the competition tomorrow."
The women are leading No. 26 Illinois 94-91 and are trailing No. 13 Wisconsin 97.5-87.5 and No.14 Minnesota 132-53.
"We've had some good races and some excellent times," coach Cathy Wright-Eger said. "Our 200 medley relay team swam a better time today than we did at Big Ten's last year and our 800 free relay team swam a 7:34.40 which places us in the top five in the conference. Our team is really coming together and we are looking for another impressive day tomorrow."
The meet will resume on Saturday at noon.
