WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's swimming and diving team went down in defeat to ninth-ranked Michigan 138-103 Saturday afternoon in Lambert Pool. The 23rd-ranked Boilermakers (4-2, 2-2 Big Ten) lost for just the second time all season. The Wolverines improved to 5-3 on the season and 2-0 in the Big Ten.
Senior Dan Kleber and sophomore Javier Diaz turned in top performances for Purdue. Kleber, swimming in his final home meet for Purdue, won the 200 butterfly by over four seconds with a time of 1:48.81, a season best time and a Lambert Pool record. Kleber broke the Lambert Pool record for the 100 butterfly a week ago. Diaz won the 100 freestyle in a time of 46.25, over a second faster than freshman teammate Jeremy Wright. The Boilermakers also won both the 400 medley and 400 free relays.
The Boilermakers will swim one more season in Lambert Pool before moving to their state-of-the- art Aquatics Center in August of 2001.
The team will travel to Minnesota next weekend to take on Big Ten rivals Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois.
