WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Purdue bounced back Wednesday from a rare loss to Ball State to beat Central Michigan 92-61 behind 19 points from Jaraan Cornell.
The Boilermakers hit 55 percent from the field (29-of-54), including 12-of-22 from beyond the 3-point arc. The Chippewas were 26-of-65 from the field (40 percent), only hitting on 3-of-19 3-pointers.
Purdue was without senior co-captain Brian Cardinal for the second consecutive game. Cardinal missed for the first time in 108 consecutive games Saturday in the Boilermakers' 72-52 loss to Ball State after having fractured his left thumb Dec. 11 against Coppin State.
Cardinal may return to the lineup Dec. 27 when the Boilermakers travel to Santa Clara or Dec. 30 when Purdue plays at No. 18 UCLA.
Carson Cunningham added 16 points for Purdue. Mike Robinson and Maynard Lewis each added 15. Lewis led Purdue (7-3) with nine rebounds.
David Webber led Central Michigan (3-6) with 20 points.
Cunningham did not miss a shot, hitting 5-of-5 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Cunningham was 4-of-4 from 3-point range in the first half, hitting three in the final five minutes as the Boilermakers went on an 18-5 to take a 44-22 halftime lead.
