Oct. 9, 1999

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's soccer team dropped its fifth straight match Friday night, 4-0 to the Wisconsin Badgers under the lights at McClimon Track/Soccer Complex. With the loss, Purdue drops to 6-6 overall (1-5 Big Ten), while the Badgers improve to 6-5-2 overall (2-5 Big Ten). The win snapped a three-game losing streak and a string of 296 minutes without a goal for the Badgers. In their first year of Big Ten competition through six games, Purdue has been outscored 19-2.

Practically the entire first half was played to a draw until Badger freshman Lauren Schmidt scored the first goal of her career with 24 seconds remaining. Senior Emily Stevens gave a long pass and Schmidt collected the ball, hesitated and then lifted the shot above the head of Purdue goalkeeper Jocelyn Cavalier for a 1-0 halftime lead.

After intermission, Badger junior Allison Wagner then picked up two consecutive goals, the first coming at the 53:43 mark. Kelly Kundert served the ball, Heather Priester then flicked it to Wagner who connected past Cavalier. Wagner's second goal of the game, in the 82nd minute, was all speed. She self-served the ball up the field and ran it down, beating the pursuing Boilermaker players along the way. It was Wagner's seventh and eighth goals of the season. Wagner now has 24 goals for her career, which moves her into sixth place on Wisconsin's all-time goals scored list. Her four points now puts her in seventh place on the Badgers' all-time points scored list. The Badgers last tally came in the final minute of play, when Stevens scored her first goal of the season from 35 yards away.

Purdue will now travel to Minneapolis, Minn., for a Sunday match at 1 p.m. with the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
