Sept. 17, 1999
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's soccer team walked into Evanston, Ill., on Friday afternoon riding a five-match winning streak in its first ever Big Ten Conference game in school history. The Old Gold and Black stormed out with an impressive 1-0 victory over the 1998 'Sweet 16,' Wildcats to improve to 6-1-0 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 2-4.
Purdue sophomore Kate Queen scored in the 29th minute, and that was all the Boilermakers would need for a 1-0 victory. Queen picked up a loose ball, dribbled inside the box and fired a shot past NU keeper Erin Ekeberg for her four goal of the season. Purdue held off a second-half surge by the Wildcats for the win. Northwestern's Brooke Bell hit the crossbar off a corner kick and sophomore Katie Hertz also had a golden opportunity from inside the box but was stymied by sophomore Katie Redmond and the entire Boilermaker defense.
Purdue will now hit the road and head to Michigan State to play the Spartans on Sunday at 4 p.m.
