Women's Swimming Dominates Ball State

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilers traveled to Muncie, Ind., on Friday, Nov. 6th, to battle intrastate rival Ball State in an early-season non-conference meet. The result was a resounding 205-94 Purdue victory. With the win, the Boilermakers improve to 2-0 in dual meets on the year.

On the afternoon the Boilermakers would win 13 of the 16 events. Leading the way for the Boilers were senior Erika Whyte and sophomore Missy Bromley with four victories apiece. Whyte once again was the catalyst for the Old Gold and Black winning the 50 (24.36) and 100 freestyle (53.10), 200-medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. Bromley was just as impressive as the Indianapolis, Ind., native touched first in the 100 (59.35) and 200 backstroke (2:09.40), 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Bromley and Whyte joined sophomore Tracy Storrier and junior Nikki Lively to win the 200 medley relay which finished three-and-a-half second ahead of the rest of the field in 1:48.89. In the 200 freestyle, Bromley and Whyte also joined Lively and senior Angela Schwada to place first in 1:38.07.

Freshman Kelly Mackus won the 100 (10:16.35) and 500 freestyle (5:04.31) while her freshman teammate Katie Mullarkey took first in the 200 IM (2:08.43). Fellow freshmen Karin Stender and Leslie Lorenz swam well also as Stender placed runner-up in both the 100 (59.62) and 200 butterfly (2:08.54), while Lorenz finished second in the 500 (5:07.18) and 1000 freestyle (10:18.50).

In diving competition, freshman Molly MacFarlane continued to impress as she won both the one-meter and three-meter events with scores of 237.20 and 237.60, respectively.

Purdue will now travel to South Bend to participate in a quadrangular meet on Saturday morning starting at 11 a.m. versus Notre Dame, Miami (Ohio) and Pittsburgh.
