WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After four hours of play, the Purdue men's tennis team fell to conference foe Michigan State 4-3 today at the Varsity Tennis Courts. The Boilers drop to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in Big Ten play, while MSU moves up to at 7-8 and 4-1on the year.
"Today, we lost to a team that wanted it more," Purdue coach Tim Madden said. "They simply out-worked us."
Purdue started the afternoon out strong by winning the doubles point. The Old Gold and Black tandem of senior Derek Myers and freshman Laith Al-Agba won decisively, 8-3, over the MSU senior duo of Trey Eubanks and Chris Struck. at No. 1. Chris James and Jason Marshall picked up the other Boiler win in doubles at the No. 3 slot. Purdue's team defeated Mark Findling and Ken Kigongo 8-3.
In singles action, Purdue won at the No. 3 and 4 positions in the line-up, but could not pull out a in the other four slots. James and Marshall were both winners, picking up straight-set victories.
The Boilers will hit the courts tomorrow as the Michigan travels into town. Action will begin at 1 p.m. at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
