BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Purdue baseball team fell to 11-19 overall and 1-7 in the Big Ten with a 10-3 loss to Indiana on Sunday in Bloomington. The Hoosiers (26-6, 5-3) swept the Boilermakers for the first time since 1996.
Purdue took an early lead with two runs in the first inning on RBI singles by junior Daryl Hallada and sophomore Mike Rose. The Boilers managed to score only once more on a solo home run by freshman Travis Dorsch in the sixth inning.
Indiana tied the game at 2-2 with two runs in the second inning. The Hoosiers then scored five runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to seal the win.
Junior right-hander Andy Helmer (2-3) lasted four innings for Purdue, allowing six hits and seven runs while striking out four. Junior Jeremy Ballard allowed four hits and two earned runs in four innings of relief while striking out four.
Left-hander David Ferris (3-1) picked up the win for the Hoosiers. He gave up seven hits and two earned runs in six strong innings.
The Boilers travel to Terre Haute on Tuesday to take on Indiana State at 6:30 p.m.
