LOGISTICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Meeting or banquet is initiated and conducted by a prospective student-athlete’s (prospect) educational institution (or by an entity other than Purdue);
- The coach does not make a recruiting presentation in conjunction with the appearance;
- The coach does not engage in any evaluation activities;
- The coach does not have any direct contact with any prospect (or a prospect's parents or legal guardians) in attendance (e.g., coach may not present awards to prospects); and
- Coaches must be sure to arrive and depart the event without coming into contact with any prospects. So requesting individuals/groups must take the proper steps to ensure there is an appropriate arrival/departure plan to reduce the risk of such impermissible contacts.
RECRUITING PERIOD RESTRICTIONS
- Men’s Basketball during a Recruiting Period – uses the institution's once-per-week visit to a prospect's educational institution and charged with an evaluation for all basketball prospects at that educational institution. The coach will not be charged with a contact, provided he or she does not make a recruiting presentation in conjunction with the appearance and has no direct contact with any prospect (or a prospect's parents or legal guardians) in attendance (NCAA Bylaw 13.1.8.1.2.1).
- Women’s Basketball during a Contact Period – uses the institution's once-per-week visit to a prospect's educational institution and charged with an evaluation for all basketball prospects at that educational institution. The coach will not be charged with a contact, provided he or she does not make a recruiting presentation in conjunction with the appearance and has no direct contact with any prospect (or a prospect's parents or legal guardians) in attendance (NCAA Bylaw 13.1.8.1.3.1.
- Football during a Contact Period – charged with one (1) of the institution's six (6) in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts per prospect and also uses the institution's once-per-week visit to a prospect's educational institution (NCAA Bylaw 13.1.8.1.4.1).
FUNDRAISING AND DONATIONS TO GROUPS INVOLVING OR BENEFITING PROSPECTS (e.g. high school, high school team, club sports team)
- Individuals or groups may not use a Purdue University coach to promote an event that includes fund raising activities that benefit prospects or a group involving prospects.
- An institution’s staff member or any representative of its athletics interests (e.g., booster, alumnus, etc.) may not be involved, directly or indirectly, in making arrangements for or giving or offering to give any financial aid or other benefits to the prospect or the prospect’s relatives or friends, other than expressly permitted by NCAA regulations. - An institution or a representative of its athletics interests (e.g., booster, alumnus, etc.) may not offer, provide, or arrange financial assistance, directly (e.g., making a donation) or indirectly (e.g., appearing at an event), to pay (in whole or in part) the costs of a prospect's education or other expenses for any period prior to his or her enrollment or so the prospect may obtain a postgraduate education. - An institution may not provide funding, directly or through paid advertisements, to benefit a prospect, a high school, or a high school athletics program. [NCAA Bylaw 13.15 and subsections]
- Athletics department staff members may not:
- endorse, serve as consultants or participate on advisory panels for any recruiting or scouting service involving prospects. [NCAA Bylaw 11.3.2.5]
- serve as a consultant for a non-institutional athletics event that primarily involves prospects and may not endorse or promote such an event. [NCAA Bylaw 11.3.2.7]
- promote or endorse a prospect's team or coach, or an athletics facility that is primarily used by prospects. [NCAA Bylaw 11.3.2.8]
