Boilers Finish Sixth at Texas A&M
The Purdue women's golf team finished sixth in the Texas A&M Bookstore/Welsh Memorial Invitational today. The Boilers totaled a 980 over three rounds. Louisiana State won the tournament with a 930, and was followed by Texas Christian (938), Texas A&M (942), Oklahoma State (947) and Baylor (973). A total of 18 teams competed in the event held at the Pebble Creek Country Club.
After the first two rounds were completed Monday, the Boilers found themselves in 10th place. But strong performances by Stacy Orschell and Colleen Cashman on the final loop helped Purdue climb four spots in the final standings.
Orschell, a freshman, was Purdue's best in the two-day tournament. She finished in a tie for 15th place after shooting a 239 on the par 72 course. Cashman, a junior, placed in a tie for 31st, with a score of 247.
Sophomore Angie Blythe tied for 40th with a 250, while freshman Kelly Beth Simmons and sophomore Johanna Gollings tied for 44th and 50th, respectively.
The was Purdue's first outing of the spring season. The Boilermakers return to action March 13-14 at the Snowbird Invitational in Tampa, Fla.
