WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Baseball’s first of eight home midweek games features a visit from Milwaukee on another welcomed 75-degree day at Alexander Field as the ballpark’s $3 specials on selected concessions make their season debut.
Tuesday’s first pitch is set for 4 p.m. Joe Trenerry is set to start on the mound, the first of his career at Alexander Field and in midweek action. Last year, he became the Boilers' first freshman to start a weekend game on the mound since May 2022.
At all Tuesday and Wednesday midweek games at Alexander, general admission tickets are specially priced at $5 and beers, hot dogs and popcorn are specially priced at $3.
The Boilermakers are coming off an eventful weekend series vs. previously No. 23-ranked Oregon, a series which featured both a pinch-hit three-run homer from Jimmy Dionne to spark a Purdue comeback Friday and a three-run inside-the-park homer from Sam Flores on Sunday. The Boilers won Saturday’s game 2-1 behind five scoreless innings from Zach Erdman and effective bullpen work as Thomas Howard, Trenerry and Jake Kramer teamed up to record 12 outs. With UO starter Collin Clarke going the distance for an eight-inning complete game Saturday, it marked the first time Purdue won a game when the opposing starter threw a complete game since March 2019 vs. NJIT in Marion, N.C. It had not happened at Alexander Field since April 2017 vs. Indiana.
The Ducks won the series after scoring 12 of their 24 runs with two outs. Oregon batted .306 (11-for-36) with two outs to Purdue’s .200 (6-for-30). The visitors scored 14 of their 24 runs in Sunday’s game, which got away from Purdue as Oregon scored multiple runs in four consecutive frames.
Aaron Manias and Dionne hit safely in all three games for the Boilermakers. Brandon Rogers also reached base safely in all three games to extend his on-base streak to nine consecutive games. Manias has hit safely in the last five and has the game-deciding single in both of Purdue’s 2-1 victories this season.
ACTIVE STREAKS
• Brandon Rogers: 9-game on-base
• Aaron Manias: 5-game hit
The Boilermakers won a midweek slugfest vs. Milwaukee, 12-8, last season at Alexander Field. Purdue raced out to a 7-1 lead but the Panthers did not go quietly, cutting a 10-3 deficit to 11-8 by the top of the eighth. Manias drove in runs in each of the first two innings. Rogers drove in Purdue’s final run of a three-run first inning.
Purdue lost its Feb. 18 midweek opener at Rice, the program’s first-ever midweek game played in February. The Boilermakers were 6-3 in midweek action at Alexander last season.
